5 Car PV Surprise!

August 15, 2017

I had a job today in downtown Houston that wrapped up about 30 minutes before #2’s departure this mid-day, I decided today’s the day to finally photograph #2 at a new location for me, just north of downtown passing over I-45, I-10, and the bayou.

At the last minute I opted for a wider angle and was rewarded with a good vantage point to capture the 5 PV’s that were (unbeknownst to me) bringing up the rear of #2.

For the historically minded, I was standing just off the Katy Trail, a walking trail that’s along the MKT’s ROW from downtown to old Eureka Yard.

Two or three of the cars are out of LA. My wife and I rode in the Southern Pacific car from LA to Santa Barbara and back several years ago. Was great fun.

Recognize all but the last car, The Frisco car a mirror image of the New Braunfels owned by Gulf Coast Chapter NRHS that I beleive is being used on the ASTA train out of Cedar Park to Bertram on the ASTA excursions, also recognize 2 former SP cars in the consist too,
Sure miss driving to downtown or following the SP routes around town, haven’t been able to drive since Feb. 2011 due to medical issues.

It’s a great RR all around Houston, myself as a former Southern Pacific RR employee I have traveled at work over most of all tracks coming into and out of Houston, the most active place’s Are Englewood Yard and Hardy St Yard where all train crews went on duty to work and off duty, never forget it any of it!!!✅

What good luck to have the perfect spot to shoot from.
