The first accident on the Terminal Sub a few years ago was in broad daylight at the Bissonnet intersection & ironically it too was a KCS train Westbound that hit an extended cab Ford pickup with 3 occupants all of which had to be taken to hospitals in separate ambulances, the Full size pickup was broken in half & took 2 wreckers to haul off..

I’ve heard from a UP engineer friend that close calls are more common in quiet zones than at regular protected intersections with horns being blown.

Houston motorist’s are idiots & need noisy reminders…

Dang! That’s the 3rd collision in the Houston Area this year! Two on the Terminal Sub (In Quiet Zones…… I wonder why?) and back near the beginning in January a westbound of the Lafayette Sub hit a killed at least one teenager. I hope this won’t be a bad year for Houston.

More proof that quiet zones DON’T WORK.. The train did blow it’s horn when it resumed on it’s way to Beaumont..

I live 1 block east of this instersection which is 3 lanes in each direction with a center esplanade.. Heard no ambulances or fire trucks pass my apartment, so assume all the action was on the City of Bellaire side..

Interesting. I don’t know as much as I’d like to know about Englewood Yard.

Cloudy day stuff like that is tricky. In those situations, I find it best to get as much elevation as possible – like climbing overpasses or at least on top of my truck – so that the dark train will not be against the brighter sky. It looks like you were unable to do that. That’s why I want a bucket truck!

You may have seen my latest post with 19 cloudy shots from New Orleans on Sunday. Many times, I use the lasso tool in Photoshop to lasso the train and then do levels and curves there, leaving the sky just as the camera captured it.
